The Multi-Coloured Swap Shop [1976 to 1982]

At 9.30am on Saturday 2nd October 1976 a totally different programme came to BBC1 - The Multi-Coloured Swap Shop.

A near three hour live programme designed especially for children hit the airwaves for the first time and immediately had an impact on children's broadcasting, one that not just affected Saturday morning television but the whole of children's television.

The simple concept of letting children phone in to make a swap with Noel or speak to the show's guests was brilliant and brought us the early stages of viewer interaction.
